LG Electronics said on 20 October that it is taking part in the 2026 ITS World Congress in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, where it is demonstrating a traffic safety solution that combines V2X (vehicle-to-everything) and V2N (vehicle-to-network) communication. Asia Economy and Newsis said the event began on 19 October and runs five days. Yonhap said it runs until the 23rd. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

The demonstration takes place on a real road. Participants ride in a demonstration vehicle over a route of about 2.6 km. Along the way the vehicle detects broken-down or stopped vehicles, roadworks, bad weather, approaching ambulances and pedestrian collision risks in advance and alerts the driver. Newsis, Yonhap and Maeil Business said participants had to sign up in advance. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 ]

The outlets, relaying the company's explanation, said V2X lets a vehicle exchange information directly with other vehicles and road infrastructure, without going through a separate communications network, using dedicated equipment. V2N connects the vehicle to a network and cloud servers over the mobile network and can provide information across a wider area. Yonhap and Maeil Business said that within the range of roadside units (RSU) installed on roadsides, traffic lights or utility poles, information gathered through V2X and V2N is used together, and that where direct communication is difficult, hazard information is provided through V2N over the mobile network. They said the vehicle can keep track of surrounding hazards even when the communication environment changes. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 ]

All four outlets reported that the solution meets the top-grade criteria of Euro NCAP, the European new car assessment programme. Yonhap and Maeil Business said it helps carmakers respond to tighter safety assessment standards and move to software-defined vehicles (SDV). Newsis described this as the company's plan. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 ]

The reports also gave background on the company's vehicle communications business. Asia Economy said LG Electronics holds the number one global share in telematics according to Tech Insight, while Maeil Business described its share as top-level. Newsis and Maeil Business said it has applied a smart telematics solution based on the 5G R16 standard to a European carmaker's mass-production model and has introduced a next-generation hybrid emergency call system supporting 2G to 5G networks, ahead of in-vehicle emergency call mandates they said take effect next year in Europe, China, the Middle East and elsewhere. The outlets also said the company supplies a vehicle communication control system for remote control and over-the-air software updates to the Hyundai GV90. [ 1 , 2 , 5 ]

Lee Sang-yong (이상용), head of LG Electronics' VS research centre and a vice president, said: "We will keep advancing V2X technology that organically connects vehicles, road infrastructure and networks, and build a safer future mobility ecosystem." Yonhap described the ITS World Congress as the world's largest annual event where governments, companies and academics share ITS technology and policy. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 5 ]
