Samsung Electro-Mechanics (삼성전기) received a presidential citation in the "green industry and ESG (environmental, social and governance) management" category of the 2026 government awards for eco-friendly technology promotion and consumption, the company said on 22 October. Asia Economy and Newsis said the awards event was held on 21 October. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

The awards go to companies and institutions in the fields of technology, products, consumption and everyday practice that have contributed to improving the environment. The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment and the Korea Environmental Industry and Technology Institute host them, and they have been held every year since 2008. The company was recognised for promoting green growth, including carbon neutrality and the circular economy, and for helping spread ESG management. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

The company takes part in the government's environmental performance labelling scheme and, based on last year, holds and maintains certification for 23 products. The scheme is a national certification system that quantifies and discloses a product's environmental impact across its life, from raw material extraction through production, distribution, use and disposal. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

On greenhouse gases, the company installed process gas reduction equipment and secured renewable energy power purchase agreements, at home and abroad, and renewable energy certificates, cutting about 340,000 tonnes. On resource circulation, it reused waste alkali and waste acid as wastewater neutralising chemicals, using 3,431 tonnes in total, and had 6,501 tonnes of waste recognised as recycled resources. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

President Jang Deok-hyun (장덕현) said: "ESG management is an essential area for a company to keep growing." He added that the company would keep practising sustainable management to respond actively to climate change and minimise its environmental impact. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

Asia Economy also published a photo caption naming Choi Jong-min, head of the company's global safety centre, and Lee Ho-hyun, second vice minister of the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and reported the company's ESG mission and global ratings. It said the company has been in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Indices World for 17 consecutive years and the FTSE4Good index for 15 years, and has been selected eight times to the top-grade Platinum Club in the climate change category of the Carbon Disclosure Project.
