Gwangju routes 324 schools’ complaint calls through central numbers
Коротко
The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education said it has begun routing outside calls to 324 Gwangju schools through a representative number and automated response system, so teachers no longer take complaint calls directly. Calls to classroom lines must go through the main office, and outbound school calls show only the school’s representative number. The Jeonnam region is not covered yet because schools there manage their own phone lines.

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Integrated Special City Office of Education said it is operating a new telephone response system for school complaint calls, under which outside callers no longer reach teachers directly. According to Yonhap, calls from outside are connected to a representative-number automated response server (ARS) instead. Newsis headlined the same change as concentrating on education, saying the complaint lines of 324 Gwangju schools are consolidated to a representative number. [ 1 , 2 ]
The system applies to 324 Gwangju elementary, middle, high and special schools, and public standalone kindergartens, where integration of the administrative telephone network has been completed, Yonhap reported. It does not yet apply in the Jeonnam area, where schools contract and run their own phone lines. Callers who dial a classroom number are routed through the representative ARS and must ask the administrative or academic affairs office to be connected to the department they want. Calls placed from a school show the school’s representative number to the recipient, and calls made with caller ID blocked are given an ARS announcement before the line is automatically closed. [ 2 ]
The education office said it expects the system to reduce exposure of classroom telephone numbers, cut abusive calls including shouting and insults, and create a consistent telephone response system. Koo Young-chul, head of the office’s Character and Life Education Division, said it would take account of each school’s work and staff feedback so the new telephone response system can settle in stably. Почему это важно
The change is an administrative measure aimed at shielding teachers from abusive or disruptive calls during teaching hours, and it shifts first contact with schools to administrative staff. Because it applies only where the administrative phone network has been integrated, its practical reach is limited for now to Gwangju, with Jeonnam schools left on the existing per-school system.
