Hollywood actor Michael Douglas says in his forthcoming memoir that he had an affair with his co-star Kathleen Turner while filming “Romancing the Stone,” ending a rumour he had denied for decades. Electronic Times reported that the relationship began during shooting in Mexico in 1983, when Douglas was both the film's lead and its producer and was looking for a co-star. [ 3 ]
According to the report, Douglas writes that he was strongly struck by Turner at their first meeting, describing her as intelligent, funny and attractive, and that the two grew close over the long shoot and continued the relationship afterwards. He says they hid it by meeting in Turner's hotel room after meals or outings with the crew, once others had gone to sleep. [ 3 ]
Douglas was legally married at the time to his first wife, Diandra Luker, whom he married in 1977. In the memoir he says the two were separated and that both were having affairs. He writes that the relationship with Turner ended when Luker came to the Mexico set with their son Cameron, that his wife began to suspect, and that he did not want to put his son through the divorce he had experienced as a child, so he ended it and returned to his marriage. [ 3 ]
Turner did not directly deny the affair, telling People, as cited by Electronic Times, that it was a matter from 40 years ago; she expressed affection for Douglas and said she would enjoy reading the memoir. The account says the two remained friends, appearing together in the sequel “The Jewel of the Nile” and later in “The War of the Roses.” [ 3 ]
The memoir, “One Helluva Ride,” is due for release on 6 October, according to Chosun Ilbo and Electronic Times. The two outlets differ on when the contents were first reported: Chosun Ilbo cites the Daily Mail on the 4th, while Electronic Times cites People on the 2nd. [ 2 , 3 ]
Electronic Times noted Douglas's career after “Romancing the Stone,” including “Fatal Attraction,” “Wall Street,” “Basic Instinct” and “Falling Down,” and Academy and Golden Globe best actor awards for “Wall Street,” as well as his more recent role as Dr Hank Pym in the “Ant-Man” series. Chosun Ilbo, in its summary, gave his age as 82. The documents do not name the city where the disclosure was made public. [ 2 , 3 ]

The memoir puts on the record a relationship Douglas had long denied, and turns a decades-old Hollywood rumour into a confirmed account carried by Korean outlets. For readers of the Korean coverage, the interest is celebrity and film history rather than any policy or market consequence.
