Japan Post Bank said on October 6 that it will end operations of roughly 5,400 ATMs at FamilyMart stores, starting in January 2027 and closing them sequentially over about three years. Japan Post Bank cash cards will still work at the Seven Bank-run “Famima ATM” units in those stores, but deposits and withdrawals that are now free in weekday and Saturday daytime will cost 220 yen. Impress Watch and Nikkei reported the move follows the end of the bank’s ATM installation contract with FamilyMart.

Japan Post Bank said on October 6 that it will end operations of about 5,400 ATMs installed in FamilyMart stores, starting in January 2027 and closing them sequentially. Nikkei reported the removal will take about three years and that specific closing dates will be announced store by store. Nishi-Nippon Shimbun and Tokyo Shimbun also reported the withdrawal from FamilyMart from January 2027 in their headlines. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]

After the closures, Japan Post Bank cash cards will remain usable at the “Famima ATM” units that Seven Bank installs in FamilyMart stores, for deposits, withdrawals and balance enquiries. The fee structure changes: transactions that are currently free during weekday and Saturday daytime will cost 220 yen, Yahoo! News Japan and Impress Watch reported. Impress Watch specified the 220 yen tier as 8:45 to 18:00 on weekdays and 9:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays, and said deposits and withdrawals at other times will cost 330 yen. Nikkei reported that some services will move from free to paid without giving amounts. [ 1 , 2 , 5 ]

Impress Watch and Nikkei reported that the step follows the end of Japan Post Bank’s ATM installation contract with FamilyMart. Impress Watch reported that FamilyMart had previously offered E-net ATMs and Japan Post ATMs, and that from June it began introducing its own-design Famima ATM with Seven Bank, making that service the mainstay and expanding it. Yomiuri reported that FamilyMart began installing Seven Bank ATMs in June and plans to have them in stores nationwide by around 2030, while Nikkei reported that FamilyMart and Seven Bank reached a basic agreement on ATM installation in September 2025 and plan to replace all of the roughly 16,000 ATMs at FamilyMart stores in Japan. [ 2 , 5 , 6 ]

On network size, Impress Watch reported that Japan Post Bank operates about 24,000 ATMs at its branches and post offices, 1,000 outside them and 5,400 at FamilyMart, giving it more than 30,000 ATMs and the largest domestic network, with the 5,400 units representing just under 20 percent of the total. Yomiuri put the domestic total at about 31,000 ATMs, with just under 20 percent at FamilyMart stores. The bank said it will continue its domestic ATM network and follow up so that customers are not inconvenienced, and described tie-ups with other companies as necessary for its ATM business, according to Impress Watch; it also plans to develop ATM functions that complement counter services. Yomiuri reported that after ending installation at FamilyMart the bank will take measures such as installing new ATMs at stations and commercial facilities to maintain convenience. [ 2 , 6 ]

Impress Watch added that the FamilyMart units are a thin, custom ATM without passbook-printing functions, and that 130 such machines are also deployed at locations including airports, Coop Sapporo and Aozora Bank, where they will continue for the time being. [ 2 ]

Почему это важно

The withdrawal removes just under a fifth of Japan Post Bank’s domestic ATM network and turns previously free daytime deposits and withdrawals at those locations into paid ones, changing everyday cash access at convenience stores. It also reflects a shift in convenience-store ATM operations toward Seven Bank, which is installing its own units at FamilyMart and setting the fee schedule that Japan Post Bank customers will face.
