Kakao Games opens pre-download for MMORPG “Dokkaebi’s World,” launch set for Oct 8
Версия 2: Two more outlets, ZDNet Korea and Yonhap, have now covered the launch, naming the Kakao Games and Supercat executives and adding the official website and PC/mobile download routes; the start date of the discount promotion is now reported differently by one outlet, which says it begins on Oct 6 rather than Oct 8.

Kakao Games began pre-downloads for its new MMORPG “Dokkaebi’s World” at 11:00 local time on Oct 6, and said the game will enter official service at 11:00 on Oct 8, according to Kyunghyang Games, Inven, Gamemeca, ZDNet Korea and Yonhap. Newsis also reported in its headline that the game could be installed in advance and would be released on the 8th. The pre-download runs until the launch and covers both PC and mobile, the outlets said. [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]
The title is a 2.5D MMORPG being developed by Supercat, based on the Naver web novel and webtoon “Destroyer of Ghosts and Cultivation” IP, the outlets reported. It combines 2D dot characters with 3D backgrounds and a world setting built on traditional Korean sentiment, they said. Kakao Games is led by co-CEOs Kim Tae-hwan and Lee Si-woo, and Supercat by CEO Kim Won-bae, according to ZDNet Korea. [ 2 , 4 , 5 , 6 ]
Alongside the pre-download, Kakao Games opened an official website where users can see the game’s main features, play videos and the “dosul” system with descriptions of each type, the outlets said. For PC, users go through the official website to install Google Play Games and then the dedicated launcher, while the mobile version is available from Google Play and the Apple App Store, they said. A launch promotion offers up to 90% off for payments made on PC through Google Play Games, Kyunghyang Games, Gamemeca and ZDNet Korea reported. Coupons are provided on a first-come, first-served basis and the promotion may end early once the prepared quantity runs out, they said. The outlets did not agree on when the promotion starts: Kyunghyang Games and Gamemeca said 11:00 on Oct 8, while ZDNet Korea said it applies from 11:00 to 23:59 on Oct 17. None of the documents stated a price for the game. [ 2 , 4 , 5 ]
Почему это важно
The launch tests Kakao Games’ approach of building a title on an existing Naver web novel and webtoon franchise, with pre-downloads used to build an installed base before service opens. The discount offered for PC payments through Google Play Games points to competition for players across PC and mobile. None of the documents give sales targets, pre-registration figures or pricing, so the commercial result is not yet known.
