Four Turkey–Moscow flights turn back as capital's airports restricted
Коротко
Four aircraft flying from Turkey to Moscow turned around on the night and early morning of 6 October because of restrictions in Moscow, TASS, Vedomosti and RBC reported. Vedomosti, citing TASS and a source in EU air traffic control services, said the flights came from Ankara, Istanbul, Dalaman and Bodrum and turned back over Lithuanian and Polish airspace; RBC said they were bound for Vnukovo and headed to alternate airfields, and a fifth plane from Istanbul landed in St Petersburg. Rosaviatsia restricted all four Moscow airports overnight, and mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 650 Ukrainian drones flew toward Moscow, with the number shot down on approach given first as 105 and later as 173.

Four passenger aircraft flying from Turkey to Moscow turned around on the night and early morning of 6 October because of restrictions in Moscow, according to reports by TASS, Vedomosti and RBC. RBC said the planes turned around on their way to Moscow's Vnukovo airport and headed for alternate airfields. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Vedomosti, citing TASS and a source in EU air traffic control services, said the flights had set out from Ankara, Istanbul, Dalaman and Bodrum and that the turnarounds took place in Lithuanian and Polish airspace. A further aircraft flying from Istanbul landed in St Petersburg, Vedomosti reported. The same outlet said Rosaviatsia, the federal air transport agency, restricted operations at all four Moscow airports during the night, without saying how long the restrictions lasted. [ 2 ]
TASS stated only that four planes flying from Turkey had returned because of restrictions in Moscow, without identifying the Turkish departure cities or the airports involved, and RBC did not name the departure cities either. [ 1 , 3 ]
According to Vedomosti, Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said 650 Ukrainian drones flew toward Moscow on the night of 6 October. Most of the drones were destroyed at distant lines, he said, while 105 were shot down on the approach to the capital; Vedomosti reported that the number shot down on approach later rose to 173. The documents do not state that the airport restrictions were imposed because of the drone activity described in the same report. [ 2 ]
The documents give no account of casualties or damage linked to the night's events, no statement from Rosaviatsia or the airports on the reason for the restrictions, and no figure for how many passengers were affected by the turnarounds and the diversion. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Почему это важно
The restrictions affected all four of Moscow's airports overnight, forcing passenger flights from Turkey to turn back or divert — a visible effect of the war on civilian air travel into the capital. The stated scale of the drone activity over Moscow, in the hundreds, points to continued large-scale strikes against the city. The documents do not say how long the restrictions lasted or how much disruption they caused beyond these flights.
