Global Foundry 2.0 market revenue grew to $96.6 billion in the second quarter of 2026, according to Counterpoint Research figures carried by Chinese business and technology outlets on October 8. Revenue was 25% higher than a year earlier and 11% above the previous quarter. The reports said the pace of market growth had accelerated compared with the first quarter. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
CLS, Jiemian and 36Kr attributed the faster growth primarily to sustained demand for AI GPUs and the expansion of AI infrastructure. The areas cited included custom ASICs, server CPUs, networking chips and power-management integrated circuits. IT Home said the Counterpoint report was dated September 29. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
IT Home provided a breakdown of the market figures. It reported that pure-play foundry revenue rose 29% year on year to $54.9 billion, while revenue for non-memory integrated device manufacturers increased 19%. Outsourced semiconductor assembly and test revenue rose 22% annually and 12% from the previous quarter to $12.6 billion. Photomasks and other categories recorded 6% annual growth. [ 4 ]
TSMC accounted for $40.2 billion, or 42% of overall Foundry 2.0 revenue, IT Home reported. Its revenue increased 34% annually and 12% quarterly, while Counterpoint projected full-year revenue growth of about 43%. Other pure-play foundries recorded combined annual growth of 18%, with SMIC up 36%. Intel Foundry grew 31% year on year. Looking ahead, IT Home cited Counterpoint's forecast that TSMC's CoWoS supply-demand gap would remain around 20% this year and narrow to 10% in 2027. [ 4 ]
Why it matters
The reported growth extends to chips used in AI infrastructure, including custom ASICs, server CPUs, networking chips and power-management ICs. IT Home also reported Counterpoint's forecast that TSMC's CoWoS supply-demand gap would persist this year before narrowing in 2027.
