In Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (Yugra), governor Ruslan Kukharuk announced that a drone danger signal had been declared in the region, RIA Novosti reported, adding that responsible services and agencies had been placed on heightened readiness. [ 1 ]
The Ural Federal District comprises the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and Tyumen regions as well as the Khanty-Mansi and Yamalo-Nenets autonomous okrugs, Vedomosti noted. The newspaper said a drone danger regime had already been introduced across the whole district on August 10, when the threat was reported in the Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk and Kurgan regions and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug. Shortly before that alert, a drone attacked a Wildberries warehouse in Yekaterinburg, from which 800 people were evacuated; no one was hurt, according to Vedomosti. [ 4 ]
Vedomosti also cited the Defence Ministry as saying that air defences destroyed 399 drones over 22 Russian regions and the Black Sea overnight on October 8. Among the regions where drones were downed, the ministry named the Orenburg region and Bashkortostan, which lie near the Ural Federal District, the newspaper reported. None of the documents states what prompted the October 8 alert or whether any drones reached the district. [ 4 ]
Why it matters
The alert covers all six regions of the Ural Federal District, which Vedomosti noted had already been placed under a district-wide drone danger regime on August 10. The documents do not say what prompted the alert or whether any drones reached the district.
