About 420,000 electricity subscribers in the DNR remain without power following a night attack, the head of the republic, Denis Pushilin, said in an interview with the Vesti information system, according to Vedomosti. Pushilin said energy workers were continuing restoration work. TASS and RIA Novosti reported the same figure for the DNR, with TASS attributing the outages to attacks by Ukrainian forces. [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]
A day earlier, on 4 October, DNR government chairman Andrei Chertkov said a massive attack had left the republic entirely without electricity, Vedomosti reported. He said specialists had begun restoring power to residential buildings in stages. Chertkov also warned that partial restrictions on mobile network services were possible during the restoration work, and that in areas where it was technically possible water was being supplied on a set schedule. [ 4 ]
At 17:31 on 4 October, RIA Novosti reported that more than 170,000 subscribers were without electricity in Donetsk, a figure reported before the about 420,000 total for the DNR the following morning. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Separately, Vedomosti reported that on 2 October, during a repeat drone attack on the Kuibyshevsky district of Donetsk, eight Emergency Ministry employees were injured. Two of them were under doctors' observation and six were receiving outpatient treatment, and two fire tankers were damaged, according to that report. [ 4 ]
The documents do not give casualty figures from the power outages, do not say when supply will be fully restored, and do not agree on who carried out the attack that caused them. [ 2 , 4 ]
Why it matters
The outage affects hundreds of thousands of subscribers, and officials say restoration is still under way, with possible partial restrictions on mobile network services and water supplied on a set schedule where technically possible. Vedomosti also reported that a drone attack on Donetsk on 2 October injured eight Emergency Ministry employees, indicating a risk to repair and rescue crews.
