Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Russian air-defence forces destroyed 9,994 Ukrainian drones heading toward Moscow between 1 September and 5 October, in a post on his Telegram channel cited by Vedomosti. Most of the drones were neutralised at distant lines and 862 were destroyed on the approach to the city, the mayor said. [ 1 ]
Sobyanin said five drones flying toward the capital were shot down on 5 October and that emergency services were working at the site where debris fell; he reported the last five at 20:03 Moscow time. During 4 October, 14 drones were destroyed on the approach to Moscow, he said. Vedomosti also reported that Rosaviatsia said Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports accepted and dispatched flights in coordination with the relevant authorities because of temporary restrictions on the use of airspace near the airports, and that the airports were by then operating normally. [ 1 ]
On the morning of 6 October, TASS and RIA Novosti reported that air defences destroyed 19 drones flying toward Moscow. The available feed summaries from both outlets gave no further detail on the timing, location or consequences of the interceptions. [ 2 , 3 ]
Why it matters
Repeated drone attacks toward the Russian capital keep Moscow's air defences active and periodically disrupt flights at its airports, which affects travellers as well as residents. The casualty and damage picture is not given in the documents; the figures come from the Moscow mayor and state agencies and no independent verification is cited.

Confirmed by several sources
Still unclear

- How the drone counts were established and whether they have been independently verified. The figures are attributed to the Moscow mayor and state agencies; the documents cite no independent confirmation.
- The sequence of times in Vedomosti's report, which was published at 17:25 on 5 October but includes a statement Sobyanin posted at 20:03 the same day. The publication time and the time of the mayor's post as given in the document do not follow in order.
- Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports operated under temporary airspace restrictions and later returned to normal operation, per Vedomosti citing Rosaviatsia. Reported by a single source so far
