One person was killed and two injured in the Kursk region over the past 24 hours because of Ukrainian attacks, the state news agency TASS reported and regional governor Alexander Khinshtein said, according to Interfax. The governor’s figures covered the period from 9am on 4 October; TASS did not name the locations of the casualties. [ 1 , 2 ]

Khinshtein said 217 drones had been shot down over the region during that period, Interfax reported. He also said artillery struck evacuated districts 85 times and that explosive devices were dropped from drones 20 times. [ 2 ]

The governor said a 64-year-old man was killed in the village of Zvannoye in Glushkovsky district. A 71-year-old man was injured in the village of Maloye Soldatskoye in Belovsky district, and a 68-year-old woman in the village of Viktorovka in Rylsky district, he said. [ 2 ]

In Oktyabrsky district, an energy facility was damaged and electricity supply was partially disrupted in five settlements — 674 houses and 2,388 people, the governor said. Supply was fully restored in the evening of 4 October, he added. [ 2 ]

Khinshtein also reported damage to housing: a house was damaged in the village of Nizhny Mordok in Glushkovsky district and two houses in the village of Shchekino and the village of Viktorovka in Rylsky district. In the settlement of Rulitino in Belovsky district, a roof and the facade of a house were damaged; a car was destroyed in the village of Ilek and a tractor was damaged in the village of Peschanoye. [ 2 ]

The two outlets gave the same overall casualty toll, but only Interfax carried the governor’s village-by-village detail, the strike counts and the damage list. TASS’s report was limited to the number of dead and injured. Neither document says whether attacks continued after the period described. [ 1 , 2 ]

Why it matters

The casualty and damage reports come from a Russian border region that has been repeatedly hit, and they describe effects on ordinary residents — deaths, injuries, damaged homes and disrupted power supplies. Because the detailed account rests on the regional governor and is carried by a single outlet, outside readers should treat the strike counts as official figures rather than independently verified ones.

Still unclear

  • Whether the drone and artillery counts given by the governor have been independently verified.
