Neptune said on Oct. 6 that it has begun global pre-registration for its dot-graphics adventure role-playing game “Traces of the Wind”. Sign-ups are open on Google Play, the Apple App Store and an official pre-registration page, and the company said the game will later be released globally through both major mobile markets and the PC platform Steam. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The game is a Japanese-style RPG built on pixel graphics and centred on story and exploration, according to the company's description. Combat is turn-based, with players assembling parties from characters with different attributes and roles, and it includes co-operative battles in which multiple users take part. A weapon build system allows players to combine up to 10 weapons to strengthen a party, alongside character collection and growth systems. Outside combat, the game offers exploration of a continent in search of hidden stories and treasure, plus life content such as fishing and mining. [ 1 , 3 ]
Neptune acquired the global publishing rights to the title in July. Before the global launch, the game had already begun service in China on mobile and PC, and at the time the publishing contract was announced it had about 500,000 followers on the Chinese game platform TapTap, according to Kyunghyang Games. [ 1 ]
Kwon Seung-hyun, head of Neptune's game business division, said the company is targeting a global launch “as soon as possible” and plans to concentrate on localization and operations so that global users can play the game satisfactorily over a long period. [ 2 , 3 ]
Neptune said it will carry out localization and service preparation following the start of pre-registration and then officially release the game. No launch date was given. [ 1 ]
Why it matters
The pre-registration is the first step in Neptune's global rollout of a title it took global publishing rights to in July and that has already been tested in China, according to the company. A simultaneous mobile-and-Steam release puts the Korean publisher in direct competition on both app stores and PC storefronts, though no launch date has been given.
