Lee Hyun-jae, the mayor of Hanam in Gyeonggi Province, said at a press conference marking 100 days in office on October 6 that the city aims to attract 10 trillion won in investment by 2030 and turn itself into a self-sufficient “jik-ju-rak” city — one where people work, live and enjoy leisure — Yonhap, the Seoul Economic Daily and Asia Economy reported. The mayor said Hanam's industrial and tax base is weak relative to its growing population. Asia Economy put 2023 per-capita gross regional domestic product at 27.04 million won, ranked 24th in Gyeonggi Province and about one-sixth of Gangnam district's 180 million won, and 2025 corporate local income tax at 33 billion won, about one-ninth of Icheon's 303.1 billion won. The Seoul Economic Daily reported the mayor as saying he would move away from passive spending control and change the local economy by attracting companies. [ 2 , 4 ]
Planned projects include an AI innovation cluster worth about 3 trillion won on self-sufficiency land in the Gyosan new town, with POSTECH and KT Cloud among participants, according to the Seoul Economic Daily. Camp Colbern, a former U.S. military site, is to become a mixed shopping, culture and business hub, with completion targeted for 2032, the reports said. On Misa Island the city plans a “K-Hangang national garden” plus a K-culture complex with a K-pop venue and studios; Asia Economy said the mayor presented a July plan for about 70% of the island as a national garden and about 30% as the complex, and that a public-private K-culture task force was launched in July. The city also listed transport and welfare measures: early opening of subway line 9 and on-schedule opening of line 3, an extension of the Wirye-Sinsa line, and, according to Yonhap, a bid to bring the GTX-D express rail line to Hanam. It will keep pursuing a separate Hanam education support office and a Gyosan school complex with a swimming pool and care facilities, targeted for 2030, and reported that 13 major tasks were put on track in the first 100 days, including expanding free flu vaccinations to people aged 60 to 64 and unifying care service counters. Asia Economy reported that the previous city administration attracted 13 companies, including Sungwon Adpia, bringing about 1 trillion won in investment and a base for roughly 2,500 jobs. The same outlet said Eric Trump, an executive vice president of the Trump Group, visited Hanam twice in February to look at development sites, and that in August the Base Group announced a plan with the Trump Organization for a “Trump International Golf Club” in Hanam, which the city said it welcomed.
