Handong University's East Sea Regional Innovation Institute said on Oct 6 that it attracted two capital-region venture companies, Hebron Works and Devdap, to relocate their headquarters to Pohang. The institute said it identified and nurtured both firms through the Glocal University 30 program and induced them to move their headquarters to the city. [ 2 ]
Hebron Works runs the senior leisure brand Abraham Sports, Yonhap reported, and develops products and services aimed at helping older people enjoy healthy leisure and an active daily life. Devdap provides technology for managing data and improving efficiency. Upon moving, both were selected as Gyeongbuk regional innovation companies through Pohang United Technology Holdings, according to the institute. [ 2 ]
The two companies plan to recruit new staff as they move their headquarters, and plan to pursue industry-academia cooperation with Handong University in the fields of physical AI and robotics, the institute said. Handong president Park Sung-jin said the university would actively lend its strength so that companies based in Pohang can take root stably and grow steadily. [ 2 ]
Newsis reported that a welcome ceremony was held for promising companies from outside Gyeongbuk relocating their headquarters to Pohang, and named attendees including Park, Hebron Works CEO Lim Seok-hyun, Devdap CEO Choi Ok-kyu and Pohang United Technology Holdings official Bae Jung-gu. It described the two firms as social ventures, while Yonhap called them venture companies. No figures for hiring or investment were given in either report. [ 1 , 2 ]
Почему это важно
The relocation is presented by the university as a case of a local institution drawing outside companies and jobs into Pohang, with new hiring planned and a regional innovation company designation attached. It also sets up an industry-academia link in physical AI and robotics between the companies and Handong University. The documents do not give investment amounts or employment numbers, so the scale of the effect is not yet known.
