The Ministry of the Interior and Safety said on Oct 6 that it will hold a briefing on private cloud transition on Oct 12 at Post Tower in Myeongdong, Seoul, for officials in charge of information systems at administrative and public institutions that are scheduled to move to private cloud services. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Six domestic cloud service providers will take part: Gabia, Naver Cloud, Samsung SDS, NHN Cloud, Kakao Enterprise and KT Cloud. The providers will introduce their main services and run technical consultation desks where agency officials can compare migration plans, costs and technical support arrangements for their institution, according to the documents. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The ministry will present the public sector's cloud policy direction and its support plan for private cloud migration, while the National Information Society Agency (NIA) will explain what institutions should consider when selecting a private cloud provider. ZDNet Korea and Bloter reported that the ministry described the event as a move away from supplier-led service promotion, and ZDNet Korea said that previously agency officials had to contact each provider individually to obtain the information they needed. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Hwang Gyu-cheol, head of the ministry's AI Government Office, said the briefing was prepared with a focus on the convenience of the demand-side institutions and that its main purpose is to give practical help so agencies can prepare projects more efficiently, adding that the ministry will continue tailored support reflecting feedback from the field, ZDNet Korea and Bloter reported. [ 2 , 3 ]
For next year, the ministry plans to select systems for private cloud migration by comprehensively considering the National Network Security System (N2SF) security grades C, S and O and the reorganised public-sector information system grades A1 to A4, and to keep expanding the migration targets after consultations with related agencies. ZDNet Korea and Bloter attributed N2SF to the National Intelligence Service; Yonhap mentioned N2SF without naming an agency. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
Why it matters
The briefing is a step in the government's plan to move administrative and public information systems onto private cloud services, which shapes how public agencies choose providers and how they plan budgets and technical support. The ministry's stated intention to widen the list of systems next year means more public IT work is likely to shift to the six participating providers.
