The Korea Tourism Organization and the Korea National Arboretum of the Korea Forest Service have released a '2026 autumn foliage map' giving the expected peak of autumn colours and recommended places to see them. The organization said on Oct. 8 that the map had been posted on the Daehanminguk Guseok Guseok (대한민국 구석구석) website; Seoul Shinmun gave the address as korean.visitkorea.or.kr. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The map divides the country into six regions. Foliage in the capital region and Gangwon is expected to peak from late October, and in the Gyeongsang and Jeolla regions in early to mid November, the outlets reported. Seoul Shinmun gave more specific dates: the 29th of this month for the capital region, Oct. 28 for Gangwon and Nov. 19 for Jeju. It said the peak refers to the point at which 50% or more of the leaves of major tree species have changed colour. [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The peak forecasts were based on data from the Plant Phenology Observation Project (식물계절관측 프로젝트), a citizen science programme run by the National Arboretum, with observations collected by 829 citizen scientists. According to Korea Economic Daily, the tourism organization said this improved the range and accuracy of its forecasts compared with before; Seoul Shinmun also said the forecasts were more accurate than before. [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]
The map lists 36 destinations. They include Incheon Grand Park (인천대공원) in Incheon, the Goseokjeong (고석정) National Tourist Site on the Hantan River gorge in Cheorwon, Gangwon, Sapgyo Lake (삽교호) in Dangjin, South Chungcheong, Mungwang Reservoir (문광저수지) in Goesan, North Chungcheong, the waterside ecological park Geochang Changpowon (거창창포원) in Geochang, South Gyeongsang, the theme village Meta Provence (메타프로방스) beside a metasequoia road in Damyang, South Jeolla, and Ttarabi Oreum (따라비오름) in Seogwipo, Jeju. Seoul Shinmun said capital-region picks also include the National Arboretum and Hwadamsup (화담숲) in Gwangju, Gyeonggi, where visitors can ride a monorail through the forest. [ 2 , 3 , 4 ]
"Data contributed by the public combined with the organization's tourism curation has allowed us to provide more accurate and useful autumn travel information," an official of the tourism organization said, according to Korea Economic Daily and Kyunghyang Shinmun. Further details on foliage trips are available on the website, Korea Economic Daily reported. [ 2 , 3 ]
