Daewoo E&C expands urban redevelopment unit, adds data center team and safety division

Daewoo Engineering & Construction (대우건설) said on October 8 that it had carried out a company-wide reorganisation and executive appointments to build up strategic businesses and strengthen its future competitiveness, Yonhap reported. The urban redevelopment team under the Building Business Division is expanded into three teams: Urban Redevelopment Team 1, Urban Redevelopment Team 2 and an Urban Redevelopment Management Team. According to Yonhap, the company expects its highest-ever orders in redevelopment this year and plans to develop the business as a strategic one. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The company also created a data center business team. Yonhap reported that it is meant to grow into a core growth engine for the artificial intelligence era; Asia Economy described it as a core growth engine. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
The project management team in the Strategic Planning Division is split into building, civil engineering and plant project management teams to manage potential risks early. Asia Economy reported that the aim is to concentrate on large projects the company is preparing, naming Gadeokdo New Airport, the Dukovany nuclear plant in the Czech Republic and the Mozambique LNG project. A new Safety and Quality Division serves as the control tower for safety and quality functions. The company plans to strengthen on-site quality support and set up company-wide monitoring to prevent serious accidents and quality failures. Research units that had been spread across the business divisions are being consolidated around the Institute of Technology to support work at construction sites. [ 1 , 2 ]
The company said this year's executive appointments were made on individual ability, expertise and performance, without regard to seniority or home region. Yonhap reported that the company plans to keep favouring job performance over rank or length of service. Yonhap's list names Jo Jae-hyeong (조재형) as head of the Building Business Division, Oh Hyeong-uk (오형욱) of the Plant Business Division, Kim Jeong-hun (김정훈) of the Civil Engineering Business Division, Sin In-jae (신인재) as head of external cooperation and Go Jeong-won (고정원) as head of the Institute of Technology, along with 19 executives at the 상무B grade. A company official said the changes would lay a foundation for sustainable growth and make Daewoo E&C a company trusted by all, Yonhap and Asia Economy reported.
