Kommersant reported that over two years enrolment in technical programmes rose from 2.55 million to 3.59 million children, and in natural-science programmes from 2.63 million to 3.55 million. The largest increase was in tourism and local-studies programmes, which grew from 964,100 to 1.57 million children, or 62.6%. According to the ministry, more than 18 million children attend supplementary education clubs and sections, and more than 300,000 specialists work in the system. [ 3 ]
RIA Novosti reported that the supplementary education system is being developed under the national project "Youth and Children", which the Education Ministry coordinates. Methodological support to the regions is provided by the "Progress" Centre for the Comprehensive Development of Children, set up on the basis of the ministry. [ 2 ]
