The harvest of carrots, onions, celery, silage corn and sunflowers is under way in Ulanqab, Inner Mongolia, with cutting, sorting and loading carried out together in the fields, China News Service reported. The outlet said order farming, hiring of nearby residents and coordinated grain-and-fodder planting were features of this year's harvest, and that counties and banners have built on cool-climate, sunlight and soil conditions to develop specialised planting that links industry revenue to farm incomes. Xinhua also reported the harvest under the headline “Golden autumn harvest season, industry helps revitalisation”, though only its headline was available. [ 1 , 2 ]

In the carrot base at Huaseying village in Chayouhou Banner, grower Xu Bentong said he planted 500 mu this year, with yields of 6 to 7 tonnes per mu, and that the carrots are all sold to Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong. Xu, described as an experienced vegetable grower, said purchase orders are signed before planting and that harvesting and transport are handled by dedicated staff, with carrots sorted, boxed and packed in the fields. The banner's carrot area reached 6,000 mu this year, the report said, supported by standardised management and mechanised harvesting. Xu said large-scale planting gives farmers land income while drawing in nearby farmers and herders for sorting and packing during the harvest, producing what he called a double increase in land revenue and wages. In Yangpozi village, Zhuozi county, more than 700 mu of onions are being harvested, with workers digging, sorting and bagging the crop before it is loaded and shipped to markets. Grower Gao Zhu said onion yields could reach 8 tonnes per mu and income about 8,500 yuan per mu, adding that villagers hired for the work earn 200 yuan a day. [ 1 ]

At a celery base in Tuchengzi township, Chayouzhong Banner, Li Jianyu, head of the Nongsheng planting cooperative, said the celery grew particularly well this year and that outside buyers come directly to the fields with their own workers and refrigerated trucks. After harvesting, he said, the celery is pre-cooled in ice water and sent straight to Beijing's Xinfadi market, while other volumes go to Shandong for further processing and export. [ 1 ]

Huang Xiuping, an agricultural technician with the banner's agriculture, animal husbandry and science bureau, said the local area tailored celery-growing techniques to climate and soil, followed field management throughout the season, and advised farmers on scientific fertiliser use and green pest control to raise output and quality. She said online and offline sales channels were opened to move local celery to end markets nationwide. The report said the banner's celery industry now combines standardised planting, specialised harvesting and multiple sales channels, and that authorities plan to expand the sector and improve production and marketing support. Why it matters

The reports describe how order farming, pre-arranged buyers and cold-chain handling link Ulanqab's cool-climate vegetables to wholesale markets in Anhui, Jiangsu and Shandong and to Beijing's Xinfadi market, which growers and officials quoted say reduces planting risk and supports farm income. Both documents come from state outlets and frame the harvest as part of rural revitalisation, so the coverage reflects local government priorities alongside the season's output.
