Samsung Culture Foundation will hold the 2026 Cultural Arts Institution ESG Exchange Program, titled “Solidarity through Art, a Sustainable Future,” on Oct 15 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium of the Leeum Museum of Art in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, the foundation said on Oct 7. The event is the third edition, having begun in 2023, and brings together staff of national, public and private cultural and arts institutions along with general visitors. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]
In the keynote, Kang Seung-wan will set out directions for ESG practice that cultural and arts institutions can apply on site, drawing on museum operating experience. Asia Economy describes Kang as a former director of the Busan Museum of Contemporary Art, while Yonhap describes him as an external member of Samsung Culture Foundation's ESG committee. [ 2 , 3 ]
The environment session covers sharing and reusing exhibition resources between institutions and ecology-arts education. Jeong Ji-eun, a manager at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, will present an exhibition-resource sharing platform intended to cut waste, and Kim Tae-yeon, a curator at Samsung Culture Foundation, will present a science-and-art program based on “Green Science” developed with the Biodiversity Foundation. In the social session, Lee Young-shin, a curator-researcher at the National Museum of Korea, will introduce the cultural diversity education platform “Modu! ABCD,” and Kang Kyu-sung of Samsung Culture Foundation will share cases of supporting the preservation of Korean heritage held overseas. [ 2 , 3 ]
After the case presentations, cellist Lee Won-hae, who is supported by the foundation's Samsung Music Fellowship instrument sponsorship program, will give a congratulatory performance on a 1715 Matteo Goffriller cello, followed by networking among participants. The program is free for arts institution staff and the general public, with advance registration on the Leeum Museum of Art website; pre-registered visitors can enter the museum free of charge from noon to 2 p.m. on the event day. Asia Economy reports that commemorative gifts will go to the first 100 people who show a public transport photo or ride record, while Yonhap reports that advance registrants receive eco-friendly gifts. Samsung Culture Foundation said it has run resource-circulation activities since 2021, including reuse of modular partitions and exhibition materials and recycling of waste hand towels and electronic products, along with sign-language commentary videos, visits for people with disabilities, regional touring exhibitions and support for preserving Korean heritage held abroad. “Sustainable change in cultural and arts institutions can only widen when each shares its own experience of practice and cooperates with others,” foundation CEO Ryu Moon-hyung said, adding that he hopes the event strengthens practice-oriented solidarity across national, public and private boundaries. [ 2 , 3 ]
Por qué importa
The program brings together national, public and private arts institutions to share practical environmental and social measures, which the foundation says can widen when institutions cooperate across those boundaries. As the third edition since 2023, it indicates the format is continuing, but the documents give no figures on its effect.
