Russia's annual inflation reached 6.35% in September 2026, according to October 9 reports citing Rosstat. Consumer prices increased by 0.35% over the month, TASS, Interfax and Kommersant reported. Interfax and Kommersant described a rise from August's annual rate of 6.33%. RBC also reported September's 6.35% figure, but its summary gave August's annual rate as 7.98%, conflicting with the other two outlets. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]
Interfax reported that September's monthly price increase followed a seasonal decline of 0.08% in August and a rise of 0.54% in July. Prices increased by 5.04% in the first nine months of 2026, against 4.29% in the same period of 2025. September inflation exceeded the 0.27% consensus forecast from economists surveyed by the agency. Those economists had expected annual inflation to slow to 6.26%, Interfax said. [ 2 ]
Kommersant reported declines in prices for many fruits and vegetables during September, including potatoes at 13.1%, cabbage at 12.7% and carrots at 12%. Egg prices rose 8.6%, buckwheat prices increased 3.3% and millet prices rose 2.1%. The outlet also reported fuel price increases: AI-92 petrol rose 1.1%, AI-95 rose 0.9% and diesel rose 1.6%. [ 4 ]
Interfax reported that consumer prices rose 0.90% over the first five days of October amid housing and utility tariff adjustments. It calculated annual inflation on October 5 at 7.13% using weekly price movements and at 7.22% using average daily data for October 2025. The agency said these estimates exceeded the central bank's 6–7% forecast range for 2026. Kommersant reported that the Economy Ministry's updated annual forecast was 6.8%, compared with 5.2% in its May version. [ 2 , 4 ]
