A car of the Wenjie (问界) brand caught fire after a collision in Shenmu, Yulin, in Shaanxi province, at about 23:25 on 17 October 2026. Wenjie's user service published a statement on the accident on 21 October, which IT Home, Jiemian and cnBeta carried. [ 1 , 2 ]

According to the statement, the car's emergency call (eCALL) system triggered and connected at once after the collision, and Wenjie's road rescue center called 122 to report the accident and help with the rescue. The company said it was deeply saddened by what it called an accident. [ 1 , 2 ]

Wenjie said its preliminary check found the car was in human-driving mode. It was travelling at 139.1 km/h as it reached a junction, where the limit is 50 km/h, and because of the speed it hit a square traffic-light pillar and caught fire. The fire began at the front of the vehicle, and the company said the car showed no abnormality before the accident. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

On the cause of the fire, the company's preliminary analysis was that a violent impact to the engine compartment at high speed caused a short circuit and fluid leak, which led to the fire. Wenjie said it was cooperating fully with the relevant authorities in the investigation and that the detailed conclusion would follow the final official result. [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ]

The company also said it had noticed false claims online, such as 'battery blast' and 'smart-driving collision', and asked people to view the event calmly and not to spread rumours. [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]

Later on 21 October, IT Home reported, citing Beijing News, that Shenmu police said the accident was a single-vehicle one. The driver was the only person in the car and has died. IT Home repeated the same account in its morning digest of 22 October. [ 4 , 5 ]

Почему это важно

The company's statement is aimed at online claims of a battery blast or a smart-driving collision, which it called false. The cause of the fire is still a preliminary company analysis, and the company said the final conclusion rests with the official investigation.
