Temperatures across South Korea are forecast to fall sharply on Oct 5, the last day of the National Foundation Day holiday, with rain in many areas followed by cold air and strong winds. Hankook Ilbo, citing the Korea Meteorological Administration, said daytime highs on Oct 5 would be 18-24°C and morning lows 10-18°C, with daytime temperatures about 5°C lower than the previous day in many places. Chosun Ilbo also reported that the 5th would turn noticeably colder than the day before, with rain expected in various parts of the country. [ 1 , 3 ]
According to the Korea Economic Daily, citing the weather agency, rain was expected in some areas from the night of Oct 4, including the Seoul metropolitan area, northern Gangwon inland and South Chungcheong, after falling in Jeju in the morning and in Busan, Ulsan and the eastern coast of North Gyeongsang during the morning and afternoon. Hankook Ilbo said rain would continue until the morning of Oct 5 in eastern North Jeolla, South Jeolla, western South Gyeongsang inland and Jeju, with scattered raindrops in the central region and parts of North Jeolla into the afternoon. Expected precipitation was about 5mm in most areas, Hankook Ilbo reported. It said cold air moving in from the northwest would push temperatures down quickly from the afternoon of Oct 5, and that strong winds until the morning of Oct 6 in most regions could make it feel colder than the actual temperature. The cold was expected to become more pronounced from Oct 6, when nationwide morning lows were forecast at 5-14°C, and on Oct 7 morning lows of 4-14°C were expected, with chilly weather continuing for the time being. Chosun Ilbo reported that with the Korean peninsula in mid-autumn, both daytime and nighttime temperatures were declining. Hankook Ilbo said the gap between day and night temperatures would widen to around 15°C from Oct 6, as morning temperatures in most regions fell to around 10°C, and that the weather agency advised people to take care of their health given the rapid change in temperatures.
