South Korea’s JCS blames North Korean mine for DMZ blast that injured soldiers
Версия 2: No new detail has emerged on the DMZ mine finding, which is still carried by only one outlet; a third outlet has now published the personnel appointments that share the same headline, naming the appointees.
Коротко
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it concluded that a North Korean mine buried south of the Military Demarcation Line caused a September 21 explosion in the western-front Demilitarized Zone, and that South Korean soldiers were injured. JCS Vice Chairman Kwon Dae-won, an army lieutenant general, presented the final investigation results at a briefing at the Defense Ministry building in Yongsan on October 5; the published text breaks off as he refers to a UN Command joint investigation. Two other items published under the same headline — from Yonhap and Dong-A Ilbo — report personnel appointments at the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs instead.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it has concluded that a North Korean mine buried south of the Military Demarcation Line caused an explosion on September 21 in the Demilitarized Zone on the western front, and that South Korean service members were injured. The JCS said the mine had been laid as part of the North’s so-called border fortification work. The finding was reported by Newsis. [ 1 ]
JCS Vice Chairman Kwon Dae-won, an army lieutenant general, announced the final investigation results at a briefing at the Defense Ministry building in Yongsan on October 5, according to the same report. In the published text he refers to a UN Command joint investigation, but the text ends mid-sentence and does not state its outcome. No casualty figures were given. [ 1 ]
Two other items published under the same headline, about the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, do not concern the DMZ. Yonhap’s feed item summarises a director-level appointment at the ministry, and Dong-A Ilbo’s item the following day lists appointees, naming Yun Hwi-tak as director of the National Memorial of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea and Yang Jeong-yeol as head of the Gyeonggi regional employment and labor office at the Ministry of Employment and Labor. The documents do not explain why the headline and the texts differ. [ 2 , 3 ]
Почему это важно
The conclusion attributes an explosion that injured South Korean service members to North Korean military work along the border, a finding issued by the South’s own military that, if it holds, keeps the border standoff sharp. The documents say nothing about any response that has followed, or about what North Korea has said.
