The forecast was issued during the National Day holiday return peak. It advised the public to guard against slippery roads and reduced visibility in Hainan and to watch for secondary disasters including flash floods, mudslides and collapses. For most other central and eastern areas, the clear weather was described as favourable for travel, with advice to keep hydrated and moisturised because of the dry air. [ 1 , 4 ]

On temperatures, the forecast said minimum temperatures across the country set half-year lows in many places over the previous three days under the influence of cold air. On the morning of October 7, temperatures in parts of southern China continued to fall slightly, with minimums below 20C in Fuzhou and Nanning. Over the coming week, cold air is expected to be weak, and temperatures in both north and south are seen near or above the seasonal average despite fluctuations, with areas above 25C gradually expanding and some places in south China and Yunnan rising above 30C. Minimum temperatures are expected to recover less, and day-night differences in most of central and eastern China are forecast to generally exceed 10C, with the forecast recommending layered clothing.
